Dr Shams Mir
BVSc & AH, MVSc, DrMedVet, MRCV
Shams, as a primary school kid, would hurry home for a quick lunch to sneak into the veterinary surgery next door to his countryside home in Kashmir, to watch medical and surgical procedures carried out on animals. By removing a piece of carrot stuck in the crop of a hen, he carried out his first successful surgical procedure at the age of eight!
He eventually graduated in veterinary science and then obtained a Masters degree in Medicine at the reputed veterinary college at Mathura in India. After a few years in general practice, Shams was appointed to the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the S.K. University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Srinagar, where he taught Medicine for several years.
He moved on to Europe’s pioneering veterinary school at Hanover in Germany where he obtained a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine. Since then he has been closely associated with the UK small animal practice and worked exclusively in hospital level practices.
Having lived over a decade in Burscough but worked farther away, he decided to serve the local communities and set up his own state-of-the-art practice in Parbold for this purpose in 2009.
